All businesses operating in the city of Sterling Heights are required to fill out a business registration with the City Clerk. Once the complete application, registration fee, and certificate of occupancy are submitted, a business certificate is issued for the current year. Prior to expiration the following year on April 30, the City Clerk’s office will mail out renewal forms to all registered businesses requesting any changes. As long as the business is still operating in Sterling Heights and there has not been a change in ownership, a new certificate will be mailed at no charge.
