The Sterling Heights Fire Department has updated its city codes and ordinance for Rapid Entry into commercial businesses, which may require immediate action by your business.
Fire sprinkler protected buildings or any business that currently has a Detex Key-Safe system will be required to replace it with a Knox Box Rapid Entry System, in reference to Fire Prevention Regulation 5-2, and City Codes & Ordinance Chapter 20, Section 506.
You are required to purchase and install a Knox Box System. Knox Box Key Safes can be purchased at www.knoxbox.com.
Once the Knox Box is installed, please contact the Sterling Heights Fire Prevention Division at (586) 446-2970. A fire inspector will schedule a meeting at your business to:
- Remove building key from old Detex Key Safe
- Install building key into Knox Box Key Safe
- Update business contact information as required
Businesses that have fire and life safety equipment such as portable fire extinguishers, emergency and exit lights, fire pumps, draft stopping, private water supplies, smoke alarms, fire sprinkler or fire alarm systems are required by city ordinance to register with Inspection Reports Online (IROL). The Sterling Heights IROL registration identification number is MIA 11249.
Any additional information needed to help guide you along in this process can be received by contacting the Sterling Heights Fire Prevention Division at (586) 446-2970.
