Watering Restrictions

In an effort to reduce instances of low water pressure and help control future water rate increases from the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), Sterling Heights will join many other communities in Macomb County by implementing voluntary outdoor water use restrictions from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Odd / Even Number Water Use System

Residents are asked to voluntary limit outdoor water use to odd / even days, based on the last number in their addresses:

• Homeowners with addresses ending in odd numbers, 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9, should water lawns, fill swimming pools, or wash cars only on odd numbered calendar dates.
• Residents with even number addresses, 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8, are asked to follow the same procedure using even numbered dates.

Future Water Use Benefits

The intent is to limit water rate increases from the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), which supplies water on a wholesale basis to Sterling Heights and many other communities in southeast Michigan.

Suggested Water Use Hours

In addition, all residents should limit outdoor water use between 5 - 9 a.m. and 6 - 9 p.m., periods when water consumption is at its peak.

Public Works urges homeowners to water lawns between 11 p.m. - 5 a.m. when water use is down and water pressure is up.
