Sky lanterns are a hot commodity this time of year, literally! It is important to remember that the City of Sterling Heights enacted a new Ordinance late last year. This Ordinance bans the sale or use of sky lanterns in the City of Sterling Heights at any time. Should an individual or group wish to use sky lanterns as part of a religious ceremony, they will need to contact the Fire Marshal to obtain the guidelines and a permit.
While the sky lanterns are visibly pleasing when used correctly in the right conditions, they pose a fire threat that is a concern in urban areas. That is why they are now banned in the City of Sterling Heights. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
