The fun and excitement surrounding the Sterlingfest Art & Music Fair continues as organizers proudly announce the 5th Annual Sterlingfast 5K.

The family fun run begins at 9 a.m., Saturday, July 27 at the heart of festival grounds located on the corner of Utica and Dodge Park Roads.  Participants will meet in the Farmers Market Pavilion and the course will take runners and walkers north on Utica Road to the city’s Nature Center where participants will cross over the river and return south to Dodge Park via the parks’ scenic bike path.

Parks and Recreation Director Kyle Langlois said the race is unique because of the family fun setting.  “We’re encouraging people to come for the run and stay for the fun that begins at 10 a.m. when the full festival opens.  From a family midway, kidzfest tent, restaurant row, four entertainment stages and a great arts & crafts fair, there will be something for all members of the family.

The cost of the race is $25 until July 1st. After July 1, cost is $30 until the day of the race. Awards will be given for Overall men and women, as well as age group awards (Top 3 in every age group). Medals, post-race snacks and an adult beverage (for those over 21) are also included. Shirts are guaranteed to those registered by July 14th; however, availability may be limited to anyone registering after July 14th.

Early packet pickup will be available at the Parks and Recreation temporary location at Fillmore Elementary (8655 Irving Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48312) on Friday, July 26th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Participants can register the day of the race and/or pick up their packets between  7:00 and 8:45 a.m., Saturday, July 27 under Dodge Park Farmers Market Pavillion, Sterling Heights.

The SterlingFAST course is chip timed, flat, fast and will be a fun family event for all runners and walkers.  Awards will be presented in age groups (every 5 years) with overall men’s and women’s winners and overall men’s and women’s masters categories.

The 2019 SterlingFAST 5k is donating a portion of the event proceeds to support the Daryl Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund. Daryl Brown was a retired Sterling Heights Police Officer, a coach at St. Anne's and Regina, as well as a longtime runner. Additional donations will be accepted at registration. Proceeds from this event will also be used to improve and maintain the Clinton River Bike Path Trail System.
