[ARCHIVED] City to host water drive for Flint, focused on "second wind" of donations

The city is hosting a water drive next week to benefit residents of the City of Flint. The drive will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 1 through Feb. 5. Donations will be accepted at City Hall, Fire Station #5 and the Parks & Recreation Building.

The City of Sterling Heights is hosting a water drive next week to benefit residents of the City of Flint. The drive, which will collect both bottled and jugs of water, will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1 through Friday, Feb. 5. Donations will be accepted at City Hall, Fire Station #5 and the Parks & Recreation Building.

Following Flint’s recent water crisis, Sterling Heights leaders felt it was important to not let the needs of the community fade to the background. Instead, the City felt a water drive in February would help address the continuing problem of clean water for Flint residents.

“While Flint’s presence in the national news may have quieted down, we know there’s still an incredible need in the community for safe drinking water,” said Mayor Michael C. Taylor. “We hope this water drive will continue to offer the support this community needs and assist with their ongoing needs for clean water. We know our neighboring communities in Michigan would do the same for us, so it’s only fitting we offer our support.”

Any cash donations received will be used to purchase water before it is delivered to a designated drop-off in the City of Flint. City Hall is located at 40555 Utica Road, Fire Station #5 is located at 41625 Ryan Road and the Parks & Recreation building is located at 40620 Utica Road.
