[ARCHIVED] Police arrest suspect in home invasion and larceny from automobile cases

Officers responded to the 35000 block of Malibu Drive for a home invasion report.

The resident at the location advised that a suspect had entered into the attached garage of the residence through an unlocked side door.  The suspect entered into the parked vehicles that were in the garage and stolen were prescription medication, sunglasses, and other miscellaneous items.  Also stolen from the garage was a leaf blower.

An Evidence Technician processed the scene and was able to secure latent fingerprint evidence that was submitted to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.  An analysis of the evidence identified a suspect.

The suspect identified was determined to be connected to a larceny from auto case that occurred in the 12000 block of Eldorado.  In that case, the suspect entered an unlocked vehicle and stole loose change.  The homeowner captured the incident on a video surveillance system.  The investigation and surveillance footage revealed the suspect had his name tattooed on his back.

Based on the information, detectives submitted the cases to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office and charges were authorized.  Sterling Heights Police, with the assistance of United States Marshals, located the suspect at a Warren hotel.  The suspect was taken into custody and subsequently arraigned.  The suspect was identified as Joshua Ray Causey, 35-year-old Warren resident.

Residents are reminded that one way to not to become a victim of this type of crime is to keep your valuables out of sight and lock your car doors.
