In consideration of this week’s predicted frigid temperatures for the Metro Detroit region, the City of Sterling Heights is keeping its Senior Center facility open to the general public to serve as a Warming Shelter.
The building, located at 40200 Utica Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 through Thursday, Jan. 31.
The Warming Shelter at the Sterling Heights Senior Center has adequate tables and chairs for visitors and is fully equipped with restrooms, electrical outlets to charge phones, drinking fountains and free public Wi-Fi. There are also vending machines on-site. The City of Sterling Heights Public Library will also remain open to the public this week, with regular hours from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
In addition to the Senior Center and Library, those seeking an overnight Warming Shelter can go to Utica United Methodist Church, located at 8650 Canal Road, Sterling Heights.
