Maria G. Schmidt was 1st elected to the City Council in November of 2003, after being appointed earlier that year in February to fill an unexpired term.
Maria works part-time for the Warren Consolidated Schools District. She attended Oakland Community College and has worked in the medical field for more than 25 years. She is a member of the Sterling Heights High School (SHHS) Band Boosters Executive Board and serves as Co-chair of the Warren Consolidated Schools’ Health Advisory Board.
Maria is a graduate of the Sterling Heights civilian police and fire academies. She enjoys volunteering for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, MCREST, Carleton Booster Club, and SHHS Band Boosters. Maria also served on the organizing committee of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event in Sterling Heights (2005-2006).
She has lived in Sterling Heights since 1994, raising son, Jordan, and daughter, Natalie, with her husband, Robert. She and her family are active members of St. Malachy Catholic Community.
